Backup, Export Question

Michael Spiller Jun 16, 2014 07:52PM PDT

When I export all files with attachments, are the custom types I made sent along with it? Or, should I create the 'backup' file which would then include those types? Do each of these vid files carry over custom types? What is the difference between an export of all records with attachments and a created backup file?

The reason I ask, is that I ran into a 'types' problem when trying to set up my key safe. The key safe wouldn't get those custom types correctly unless I chose to 'restore' instead of 'import' my exported vid file (which was made by exporting all records with attachments). I know now that there is no longer a restore option with the SplashID Safe.
So I am wondering how to avoid this problem should I get a new computer soon. Should I try to transfer over my data using the vid file from an export of all records with attachments or from a backup file?

Thanks for contacting us. VID files do support custom types, but not custom icons. If you want to preserve everything, transfer the data folder contents to replace the data folder on the Key Safe.
