Thanks for contacting us. We have our own encrypted file format – vID – which allows you to set a password on backup or export data. This has been available since very early on in the history of SplashID.

So you just need to go to File menu > Export > SplashID vID, set the file save location (eg. Desktop), and set a password. Then you can import that file into any equal or newer version of SplashID.

Hi Bob,

I have the same problem. I last used SplashID on my Palm 3 years ago, Version 4.16. It (a Palm TX) was packed away in a box. Since then I have been an Android user. Now I need to reinstall SplashID on a Windows 8 PC and to repopulate it from the Palm vID export fie. The SpalshSafe program sees the exported data file but when import is selected doesn't seem to import anything! I even tried to install the Version 4 desktop, but that too sees the file but imports nothing! What to do?!

If you are importing a very old VID file, it can give you problems due to format changes over the years. If you are using version 7 of SplashID Desktop, try the Import > vID 3 option.
