Splash ID 8 install on Windows fails

Stephen Leake Feb 26, 2015 06:24AM PST

Running the Splash ID 8.0.2.840 installer on Windows 7 crashes with "error opening file for writing: c:\Program Files (x86)\SplashData\SplashID Safe\SplashId Safe.exe"

Also, it's overwriting the current Splash ID 7 install, which is a bad idea for such a critical app; I want to be able to revert to 7 if 8 doesn't work for some reason.

I tried changing the install directory to "splashid safe 8"; that got the same error.

Thanks for contacting us. That could happen if the version 7 app is running.

If you want to preserve version 7, just rename:

c:\Program Files (x86)\SplashData\SplashID Safe\

to

c:\Program Files (x86)\SplashData\SplashID 7\

Then run the SplashID 8 installer.
