Password Generator Setting in Desktop Version 8

John Hewlett Apr 09, 2015 11:47PM PDT

Why do you keep removing features and making it more difficult to use SpalshID?

I upgraded to version 8 of the Windows desktop application from version 7 and I no longer have direct control over how passwords are created. This change to the Desktop software had made it way more difficult to use SplashID. There are some websites I use that require periodic password changes, as well as those I change every so often. The problem is there is no one size fits all password schema I can use for all sites. Some sites have password length restrictions that are shorter than the standard length I prefer to use, some sites REQUIRE special characters, other CAN'T accept special characters, etc. I always find myself changing the password generation criteria based on the requirements of the site. With version 7, this was simple as this could all be changed from the dialog box that appears when you clicked the "Generate" button. However, with version 8, this is gone and the only way to control the password generation is to exit out of record you are editing, access the setting, update the password generation criteria and then going back in to the record. I was using the Desktop software to create 90% + of my passwords because the ability to change the generation criteria on the fly was removed from the iOS version and put into settings. It is stupid changes like this that has me looking at other password managers. 1Password, for example, does allow you change the length of the password right when you are trying to generate a new password, in addition to allowing you to change the "Password Recipe" which controls the inclusion of numbers and/or symbols... everything I used to be able to do easily with SplashID.

Please put back the ability to change the password criteria when generating a password!
