password generator

Edward Hahn Mar 13, 2015 09:37AM PDT

The password generator button appears in every field of a record. This is unnecessary -- e.g. it is not needed in a field containing a URL or bank account number or email address. Can the button be removed from such fields?

Thanks for contacting us. We thought about limiting it to fields labeled “Password” but that would remove functionality for users that want to use it on other less exactly definite fields. Maybe you want to generate a random username, PIN, account code, or who knows what else. We decided it was less of a problem to have it in too many fields than too few.

Another problem with the new generator is that it is not easily customizable. How do i generate a 15-character password easily, without going into settings, etc?

Too many problems with this new version. Can we install the older versions without problems?

You can downgrade safely to version 7, but to answer your question:

“How do i generate a 15-character password easily, without going into settings, etc?”

You can set your password generator setting to 15-characters with whatever characters you wish to have included, and always generate such strong passwords, or when you need shorter ones, just delete a few of the characters it generates.

I understand the logic of including it for a variety of fields. My biggest problem stems from the fact that it is immediately adjacent to the copy field. I use the copy button often to transfer account numbers etc. to a field on a web site. One slip and my account number is turned into gibberish.

Why not put the generate button at the bottom of the page when the record is in edit mode?

Thanks so much for your taking the time to share your feedback with us. We will take this into consideration when updating the app in the future.

We are planning to include the customisable password generators for each field in upcoming releases of the desktop versions of our apps.
