SplashID Safe 8.x Desktop apps - Backup/Restore options

SplashID Safe PC/Mac Desktop apps and our mobile apps have several means to automatically and/or manually backup your SplashID Safe data depending on exact app versions used, platform and sync mode used (one of No Sync/WiFi Sync/Cloud Sync). Please see below how to locate automatic backups of our Desktop apps and/or how to manually backup/export or restore (import) data for our PC/Mac Desktop apps as well as the iOS & Android mobile apps.
The information below applies to our latest 8.2.x SplashID Safe Desktop app versions (8.1.1 for PC) and was last updated in June 2018.

1) PC Desktop app: Our Windows PC Desktop app runs on Windows Vista or newer, and keeps local automatic backups of your data as long as No Sync or WiFi Sync mode is used - these are updated/overwritten on quitting the Desktop app and are limited to FIVE (5) backups in total.
Please note if you use Cloud Sync the PC Desktop app will not keep any local automatic backups unlike our latest Mac Desktop app which keeps such backups even in Cloud Sync mode.
Automatic PC Desktop app backups are located in folder:
C:\Users\[your Windows user name]\Documents\Splashdata\SplashID.8\Backup\
The backup folder location can be changed, so if you changed it then the automatic backups will not be in the folder above but in the folder you set them to.

To manually backup your SplashID PC Desktop app data, please do the following:
* Use the Export menu found in main/Application menu of Desktop app - top left. (works for all Sync modes)
* OR use the Backup menu in same location (works only for WiFi Sync and No Sync but not Cloud Sync)

To import a backup, please do this:
* If the PC Desktop app has no useful data and is empty, please use the Import menu in main/Application menu of Desktop app - top left. If the PC Desktop app has some data you do not need, delete that first then do the Import.

2) Mac Desktop app: Our Mac Desktop app runs on Mac OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion or newer, and keeps local automatic backups - for 8.1.0 (or newer) versions, it keeps those regardless of Sync mode used - No Sync, WiFi Sync, or Cloud Sync. These are updated/overwritten on quitting the Desktop app and are limited to TEN (10) backups in total, plus unlimited Weekly Backups too which are limited to 1 Weekly Backup per week but not in total number.
(Please note the older 8.0.x Mac Desktop app versions do not keep any local automatic backups if Cloud Sync mode is used and do not keep Weekly Backups.)
Automatic Mac Desktop app backups are located in folder:
~/Library/Containers/com.splashdata.splashidmac/Data/Library/SplashID Safe/Backup/
This is a special hidden System folder. To reach it, please do this:
- Run the Mac OS Finder
- Hold down alt/option key Alt/Option Key -- Mac on your keyboard (on older Macs - ), then click on Go in menu bar with the mouse, select the Library folder.
(Alternatively, choose Go to Folder.. from the menu and go to the path
~/Library/Containers/com.splashdata.splashidmac/Data/Library/SplashID Safe/Backup/.
Please note on Mac, the Backups location cannot be changed and will thus always be the above.

To manually backup your SplashID Mac Desktop app data:
* Use the Export menu found in File menu of Mac Desktop app, which is in the menu bar at very top of your Mac's display - above our Mac Desktop app window. (works for all Sync modes)
* OR use the Backup menu in same location (works only for WiFi Sync and No Sync but not Cloud Sync)

To import a backup, please do this:
* If the Mac Desktop app has no useful data and is empty, please use the Import menu in File menu of Mac Desktop app. If the Mac Desktop app has some data you do not need, delete that first then do the Import.

NOTE: As long as you use Cloud Sync, our Web/Cloud servers/system will keep automatic weekly Web Backups - these are created each week on Monday. They are not created if you use No Sync or WiFi Sync.
These Web Backups are limited to 5 Weekly backups (if no Master Backup is set), OR 4 Weekly Backups + 1 Master Backup (if one is set). The Master Backup does not get overwritten so even if 4-5+ weeks have passed it will stay intact.
